Woody Allen has agreed to show “Crimes and Misdemeanors” at a film festival in South Africa sponsored by the African National Congress and other anti-apartheid groups.

The comic actor and director said Wednesday that he supports a cultural boycott of South Africa until the country’s system of racial segregation is dismantled. But he agreed to show the movie next month at the Weekly Mail Film Festival in Johannesburg.

“This is done with ANC agreement in the hopes of promoting a unitary culture and also to show sympathy for those in South Africa who oppose a prevailing, unacceptable racial policy,” Allen said in a statement.
