Lakewood : Plans for 186 Homes on Old Tank Farm Site Presented

Plans for what is described as Lakewood’s “largest housing development in the last 20 years” were presented to the City Council on Tuesday night.

The plans for the old Chevron Oil Co. tank farm on Downey Avenue are expected to be approved at the July 24 council meeting. Pacific Coast Homes, a subsidiary of Chevron, will build 186 homes on the 33-acre cite. The developer is to begin grading this year and expects to have the homes built by 1996.

The site was the subject of a heated residential revolt two years ago. The council drew up plans to build an office park on the land in order to generate tax revenue for the city. But when approximately 1,000 residents showed up to protest at a council meeting in 1988, the council rezoned the area for residential use.
