Abandoned Babies Presented

Three abandoned infant boys were presented by the Los Angeles County Department of Children’s Services on Wednesday in the hope of identifying them and uniting the babies with their parents or relatives. They are:

Baby Christopher, who was brought to Doctor’s Hospital in Lakewood on May 3 by a young woman who said she found him in a cardboard box in the parking lot of a nearby drugstore. She left the baby with a nurse and was last seen leaving with two small children.

Baby Doe Gonzales, who was left at Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center in late April by a woman identified as his mother. Hospital attendants said the woman gave the hospital a fictitious address and has not been seen since. The baby’s name may be Eriberto.

Baby Boy Doe Manuel de Jesus, who was left by his mother with an unrelated caretaker on Prado Street in East Los Angeles on June 20. The mother returned after five days, but said she had no job and could not care for the baby.

Ray La Motte of the Department of Children’s Services urged anyone who can identify the three children to call the Child Abuse Hot Line, (800) 540-4000.

So far this year, she said, nine children have been found abandoned in Los Angeles County under circumstances in which officials have not been unable to identify the parents.
