Ceremony to Honor Veteran Fireboat

Share

Los Angeles City Fireboat No. 2, the fourth-oldest active fireboat in the country, will be honored today at the Port of Los Angeles for its designation as a National Historic Landmark by the Department of the Interior.

The boat, the Ralph J. Scott, was launched in 1925 and has been in active duty ever since. Fire Department officials said the vessel was instrumental in fighting the fire aboard the tanker Sansinena, which exploded in Los Angeles Harbor in December, 1976, and rescuing members of its crew.

The Ralph J. Scott, named after the chief engineer and general manager of the city Fire Department from 1919 to 1939, will be honored at 11:30 a.m. at Fire Station 112, 550 Sampson Way, Berth 85-86.
