NATION IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : Tests Fail to Link Youths to Attack
Genetic tests on semen showed it did not match the genetic makeup of any of the six youths charged in the beating and gang rape of the woman known as the Central Park jogger, a scientific analyst testified. Dwight Adams, an FBI agent who specializes in DNA profiling, said sperm found in the jogger appeared to match only the genetic makeup of semen found in the woman’s running sock. Defense lawyers suggested that that means the real rapist may still be at large. Three of the teen-agers are on trial in a state court in Manhattan, charged with attempted murder, rape and sodomy, in the brutal April 19, 1989, attack on the lone woman jogger in Central Park.
