Nation IN BRIEF : FLORIDA : Carrier Fire Injures 3 Welders and Sailor
A flash fire eight levels below the flight deck of the aircraft carrier Saratoga injured three civilian welders and a sailor, the Navy said. None of the injuries were life-threatening. Damage to the ship docked at Mayport Naval Station, Fla., was minimal and the fire burned itself out almost immediately, officials said. The Saratoga is based at Mayport and carries a crew of about 5,000 when fully staffed. It has been undergoing minor repairs since returning in June from training operations along the Eastern seaboard.
