Military Child-Care Funding Advances

Share

The House Appropriations Committee on Thursday approved almost $176 million in military construction projects, including two on-base, child-care centers for the San Diego area.

“We can cut military construction, but it can’t be axed. As we consolidate, close bases and cut budgets, the remaining bases and equipment must be maintained in top working order, and personnel must be highly trained and adequately housed,” said Rep. Bill Lowery, (R-San Diego), a committee member.

The construction funds include $2.3 million for a child-care center at Miramar Naval Air Station, as well as $4.1 million for one at the Naval Submarine Base. To help facilitate housing projects, $11.8 million was allocated for the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base; $8.9 million for the San Diego Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Center and $31.8 million for the Navy’s Public Works Center.

The bill still awaits approval by the House and Senate. It will go before the House of Representatives next week.
