Roy A. Utley, a longtime machinist in the San Fernando Valley who worked on aerospace projects, has died at his La Crescenta home. He was 63.

He died Sunday of a heart attack, said his daughter, Suzanne Utley of La Crescenta.

A native of Springfield, Mo., Utley came to California in the early 1940s. He had a milk route in the Valley while working as a part-time machinist for about a year before going into the machinist trade full time.

His most recent job was as an engineer for Datatape in Pasadena, where he worked from 1985 until last month, when the company had a major layoff.

Private services were held this week. Bade Mortuary in Tujunga handled the arrangements. Contributions can be made in Utley’s name to the donor’s favorite charity.
