Bratner Williams; Retired Insurance Agent

Bratner Williams, a life insurance agent for Pacific Mutual Life in Encino for 34 years, had died in Tarzana. He was 72.

He died Monday of heart failure following a recent surgery, said his son, Scott Williams of Newbury Park.

A native of Springfield, Ill., Williams served in the Army during World War II, achieving the rank of lieutenant. After he was discharged, he moved to California, where he worked as a salesman for Pitney-Bowes before going to work for Pacific Mutual Life. He retired in 1987.

In the late 1960s, Williams helped build the West Hills Baseball Field and continued his activity with the sport until he moved from Woodland Hills to Phoenix three years ago.

In addition to his son, he is survived by his wife of 38 years, Carolyn Williams; son John Schow of Salt Lake City; daughters Susan Williams of Westlake Village, Stephanie Dempsey and Kim Nava of Woodland Hills, and eight grandchildren.

Services were held Wednesday. Arrangements were made by Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Mortuary in Westlake Village.
