WORLD : Baker Plans 1st Mongolia Trip

WASHINGTON —
Secretary of State James A. Baker III will make an unprecedented visit to Mongolia on Aug. 2-5 to demonstrate support for democratic change there, the State Department announced today.
“The secretary’s visit is an important step in U.S.-Mongolian bilateral relations, and serves to demonstrate our support for Mongolia’s peaceful democratic reform process, leading to Mongolia’s first multiparty election since 1921,” to be held Sunday and July 29, said spokeswoman Margaret Tutwiler.
