Equality Ignored?

Share

I am confused. In The Times (July 4, Page A20), it was stated that the men-only membership policies at two Princeton University eating clubs violated state anti-discrimination laws, so the Supreme Court ordered them to admit women. This was hailed as a step forward in women’s rights.

Recently, Mills College decided to retain its women-only policy. This was also hailed as a step forward in women’s rights.

My definition of equality and that of women must be different because this sounds like a case of “don’t do as I do, do as I say.”

How do women expect to keep the support of those people who believe discrimination is unjust when they appear to be ignoring the ideal of equality and going for superiority?
