Rock as It Nears 40: Running on Empty?

Share

As a member of one of Los Angeles’ myriad of local bands, on the one hand I hear “be true to your craft, take chances, give us something new and exciting, for God’s sake.” Yet on the other hand, I hear “do something that I know will make me money (endless rehashes), because I don’t really believe people want to hear anything new, they might not understand it.”

I know everyone needs to make a buck. However, it seems that some kind of balance needs to be maintained. Balance between making money off the clone bands and giving some of the new bands that are taking risks a chance and some publicity.

There are bands doing new and exciting things, but the people who are making the decisions aren’t listening anymore.
