Critics Take Stand on Censorship: Members of the American Theatre Critics Assn. voted Monday to urge Congress to continue funding the National Endowment for the Arts without restricting the content of artistic expression. The ATCA, the only national organization of drama critics in the United States, issued a statement saying: “The American Theatre Critics Assn. strongly urges Congress to reauthorize the National Endowment for the Arts without restrictions on artistic content leaving its traditional fiscal and evaluative structure intact, so that creativity can continue to flourish in the United States.” The statement was passed unanimously by theater critics attending the national convention of the ATCA held in Pittsfield, Mass. ATCA membership includes nearly 300 newspaper, magazine, television and radio critics throughout the U.S.
