3-D Systems Inc., the Canadian parent of a Valencia company with the same name, said it expects to report a profit of between $100,000 and $200,000 when its final figures for the second quarter that ended June 30 are released at the end of this month.

3-D Systems, which manufactures machines that make three-dimensional plastic models or prototypes of objects by using computer-aided designs and lasers, lost $984,736 in the second quarter of 1989. Sales in the latest period nearly doubled, to $7.1 million from $3.7 million, the company said.

3-D Systems attributed the turnaround in the latest quarter to cost-cutting, including layoffs, and to additional marketing efforts.
