Marjorie Merta Wilkinson; Wife of Ex-Councilman

Marjorie Merta Wilkinson, the wife of former Los Angeles City Councilman Robert M. Wilkinson, has died in Tarzana. She was 69.

A longtime resident of Northridge, Mrs. Wilkinson died Friday of cancer, a family spokesman said.

She was born Marjorie Philp on Dec. 16, 1920, in Grover, Colo. In 1943, she came to California and joined several local organizations, including the Spastic Children’s Society of Granada Hills and the San Fernando Valley Board of Realtors. She was a past president of the Christian Women’s Club in the San Fernando Valley. Her husband served as a city councilman from 1953 to 1957 and from 1965 to 1979.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years; a son, Robert Wilkinson Jr. of Phoenix; daughters Barbara Lima of Anaheim and Noreen Lohnes of Mary’s Lake, Fla.; a brother, Walter Philp of Beaver, Ore.; sisters Dorothy Fiscus of Ft. Morgan, Colo., Selma Waters of Monte Vista, Colo., and Lois Pearce of Fortuna; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Lorenzen Mission Chapel, 19300 Sherman Way, Reseda. Lorenzen Mortuary is handling the arrangements. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Chatsworth. Donations can be made in Mrs. Wilkinson’s name to the American Cancer Society, San Fernando Valley unit.
