General Motors Corp. Units: The Detroit auto maker’s three primary subsidiaries reported mixed second-quarter results. GM-Hughes Electronics Corp., GM’s electronics and defense industry unit, said its quarterly earnings totaled $189.5 million, down 21% from the 1989 period. Revenue rose to $3 billion from $2.8 billion. The firm attributed the decline to higher effective tax rates. General Motors Acceptance Corp. said its profit rose 12% to $301.6 million. The finance, leasing, insurance and mortgage company said the gain was principally a result of lower borrowing costs. Electronic Data Systems, GM’s technical services subsidiary in Dallas, reported earnings of $125.3 million, up 19%. Revenue rose to $1.46 billion from $1.38 billion. The firm credited a sharp increase in revenue from non-GM sources.
