Chabad of West Orange County Schedules Tisha B’Av Observances

Tisha B’Av, which commemorates the destruction of the First and Second Beit Hamikdosh, will be observed Monday and Tuesday at Chabad of West Orange County, 5702 Clark Drive, Suite 18, Huntington Beach. The event will include services and a fast. The 24-hour fast begins Monday at 7:45 p.m. and ends at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. On Monday, services will begin at 8:15 p.m. followed by the reading of the Book of Lamentations. On Tuesday, services will start at 6:30 a.m. and will be followed by the reading of Kinot. Kinot are selections of poems describing some of the many tragedies that have befallen the Jewish people. Mincha services will begin at 7:15 p.m. For information, call (714) 846-2285.

First Baptist Church of Fullerton will present an all-church Summer Pops Concert featuring Bob Carlisle, lead singer of the Christian pop group Allies, in addition to show tunes and songs of faith at 7:30 tonight at 212 E. Wilshire Ave., Fullerton. The program includes selections from “Fiddler on the Roof,” “My Fair Lady” and “Carousel,” and contemporary Christian music. The Rev. Maurice Ogden will speak at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Orange County Unitarian Church, 1120 W. Santa Ana St., Anaheim. Ogden will discuss his visit to Girard, Kan., and the memorial library collection at Pittsburg State College of Emmanuel Haldeman-Julius, who created the paperback book industry with his publications of the Little Blue Books. The Rev. Virgil F. Bjerke of Long Beach will be installed as the new interim pastor at Lutheran Church of the Master, 2900 Pacific View Drive, Corona del Mar, at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Michael Christianson, president of the congregation, will install Bjerke. Bjerke is a graduate of Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D., and of Luther Northwestern Seminary in St. Paul, Minn.
