Recycling in Cypress

Share

Ever since Earth Day, I have been trying to recycle items in a personal effort to improve the environment, but I have become increasingly frustrated in my attempts.

My city does not have a program to recycle trash.

My daughter tried to return cans to several places one evening, only to find that the machine was “full,” the machine was broken (after she inserted several cans and received no rebate), or they must be returned to a store’s courtesy desk during working hours.

I tried to return 2-liter bottles to the store where they were purchased only to be told they were no longer going to recycle them! This was a major supermarket that has signs everywhere that it is working to clean up the environment!

The recycling companies are only open during the same hours that I work, so returning newspapers there is not possible. Besides, it is miles away!

There must be an easier way for people to recycle! I want to know that these items are being put somewhere so they will be used again. I don’t even care if I receive any money for them, I just don’t want to throw them away.

There should be bins in every supermarket parking lot (or somewhere) clearly labeled “plastic,” “glass,” “newspaper” and “cans.”

How about churches, Scouts or civic organizations taking this on as a project to monitor and make a profit? I am even suggesting that the Cypress City Council consider placing bins at strategic locations and using the profit to beautify the city or repair the streets.

Until each city institutes a recycling program such as Anaheim, Irvine and Laguna Hills are doing, there must be some easy way for citizens to recycle their trash.
