Ex-Austrian Leader in Critical Condition

VIENNA —
Former Chancellor Bruno Kreisky, who was hospitalized with a heart condition two weeks ago, was in critical condition Saturday, one of his doctors said.
Kreisky, 79, who served as chancellor from 1970 to 1983 and was the most popular political leader in postwar Austria, has been receiving medical treatment for circulatory problems for some time, the Austria Press Agency reported.
But his heart condition “has seriously worsened during the last 24 hours,” head physician Wolfgang Enekel was quoted as saying.
