Fighting Words

I do not consider it my responsibility to help immigrants learn English. If I were to move to a foreign country--France, for example--and to work there, raise my children there, become a citizen and vote in their elections, I would learn the French language. I would not expect the French government or its citizens to cater to me, either by spending their taxes to teach me French, or by giving me information in English until such time (if ever) that I became fluent in their language. I can’t understand why the American government feels responsible to everyone who moves here in this regard. Certainly they did not bother to extend this “courtesy” to my ancestors when they came to this country.
