Actor Richard Widmark was in satisfactory condition at New Milford Hospital Monday, recovering from leg injuries suffered in a weekend lawn-mower accident, a hospital spokesman said.

Widmark, 75, was taken to the hospital by ambulance about 6 p.m. Sunday and underwent surgery on his lower left leg and foot, said Hank Fanberg, a hospital spokesman. Fanberg did not know the extent of injuries or other details of the accident.

“He picked a fight with his lawn mower,” Fanberg said.

Widmark has owned a home in Roxbury for years.

His more recent screen credits include “Murder on the Orient Express,” “The Swarm,” and “Against All Odds.”
