Brian Downing Selected Angel of the Week

Designated hitter Brian Downing, whose batting average reached a season-high .266, has been named Angel of the Week by The Times’ Orange County Edition.

Downing was eight for 23 with a double, his first triple of the season and four runs batted in. He also scored twice. Downing has driven in 13 runs and was 24 for 74 in July after Sunday’s 6-2 victory at Seattle.

A check for $250 in Downing’s name will be given to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Orange County.
