Dale L. Chere; Computer Specialist

Computer specialist Dale L. Chere has died in his Glendale home at the age of 61.

Chere died Wednesday of cancer, said his wife, Donna Chere.

Chere began working as a computer specialist for Franklin Life Insurance 40 years ago in his hometown of Springfield, Ill.

In 1960, he moved to Glendale, where he programmed computers for Citizens National Bank. He had been employed since 1966 by Beneficial Standard Life Insurance, a subsidiary of Cal Fed Inc., in the Wilshire District.

Chere served two years in the Korean War and was active in the Boy Scouts of America in Glendale during the 1970s.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years; a son, Christopher Chere of Los Altos; a daughter, Suzette Chere of Glendale; and one grandson. At Chere’s request, there will be no services. Kiefer & Eyerick Mortuary in Glendale handled the arrangements. Donations can be made in Chere’s name to the Boy Scouts of America.
