Fire Department Asks for Delay on Heliport
Faced with mounting opposition from Hollywood Hills homeowners, the Los Angeles City Fire Department asked Monday for more time to discuss with residents a department proposal to locate a helicopter ambulance service on a ridge above the Hollywood sign.
Fire officials and Council President John Ferraro, who represents the area, asked a hearing examiner for the city’s Planning Commission to delay making a recommendation on the proposal until Oct. 1.
Some residents who live near the proposed heliport complained at the hearing that noise from the operation would be intolerable and urged the Fire Department to find a location away from residential neighborhoods.
Hearing examiner Charles Rausch, who was scheduled to make his recommendation to the Planning Commission on Sept. 6, asked the Fire Department to submit the request for a delay in writing. He said it would have to be approved by the commission.
