Emotional Play

Nothing is more precious than time, especially when you know it’s running out.

And no one knows this better than actor Paul Linke, whose wife died of breast cancer in 1986.

Friday evening in Camarillo, he will present an autobiographical monologue titled “Time Flies When You’re Having Fun,” his story of dealing with wife Francesca’s final three years of life.

The monologue benefits Hands for Hope, a local nonprofit organization offering psychological and social therapy for cancer victims, family members and friends.

“The play draws on every emotion possible,” said Bill Phillips, founder of Hands For Hope.

“It’s full of laughter and, of course, the obvious tragedy.”

“It’s much different from regular acting. Linke plays himself as husband and lover,” Phillips said.

“This is his monologue of how he handled the situation and everything he got out of it.”

The show, which was an HBO special, can be seen at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Bill Esty Center, 3701 E. Las Posas Road, Camarillo.

A second show will be performed 7:30 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Wood Ranch Country Club, 301 Wood Ranch Parkway, Simi Valley.
