Luminaires Net $723,000 for Institute

Luminaires of the Doheny Eye Institute held their May 16 spring luncheon at the San Marino home of James and Marilyn Zumberge. The luncheon acknowledged patrons who have enabled the support group to raise more than $723,000 during the past 10 years to benefit Doheny Eye Institute. Cynthia Yost was Luminaires 1989-1990 president.

* American Diabetes Assn. netted $46,000 at its third annual Defeat Diabetes Golf Invitational July 16, attended by more than 140 guests at the Riviera Country Club. Proceeds will be used for ongoing research to cure diabetes and for programs to help those who are affected by the disease.

* SPRINT (Special Preventive Research, Intervention and New Technology for Children at UCLA) dedicated its new facility at ceremonies attended by 350 supporters July 15 at UCLA Medical Plaza. President Nina Leif noted that $140,000 was raised at the contributors party to benefit SPRINT. Cindy Elie, Diane Sharp, Lyn Root, Patricia Howell, Farah Farzaneh, Suzie Labowe, Jasmine Murata, Muriel Slatkin and Jean Wadley served on the dedication committee.

* Concern II’s recent members party increased its 2,500 membership by the addition of 700 new members and raised a net total of $14,000. Concern II has raised more than $1.7 million for cancer research since its inception in 1981.
