NAMES IN THE NEWS : Penn Stakes Out Nebraska

From Times Staff and Wire Service Reports

Actor Sean Penn has been seen but not heard by star-struck Cornhuskers wondering about his secretive film project "Indian Runner" and where he's going to shoot it.

The state film office in Lincoln and a movie production company that set up offices in Omaha would not confirm reports that eastern Nebraska is the primary location for the movie, thought to be set in the 1960s.

Penn is living in a rented home and has been seen in recent days dining at Omaha restaurants.

Penn was in Omaha and nearby Plattsmouth earlier this year examining possible locations for the movie. The star of such films as "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," "Colors" and "Casualties of War" is expected to direct and star in the new film.
