American Michael Johnson ran away from the field in the 200 meters in an international track and field meet in Budapest, Hungary, but the time was a relatively slow 20.30 seconds.

Johnson is headed to Sestriere, Italy, on Wednesday for a shot at the world record of 19.72 by Italy’s Pietro Mennea.

Andrew Valmon of the United States won the 400 meters in 44.61. Butch Reynolds, who has been hampered by a tendon injury, ran seventh in 46.89, more than three seconds over his world mark. It was his first 400 in almost a year.

In the 100 meters, Nigeria’s Chidi Imoh (10.40) upset former world record-holder Calvin Smith (10.45) of the United States.
