Winfield Is Angel of Week

Dave Winfield, who last week moved within one hit of 2,500 for his career, has been named Angel of the Week by The Times’ Orange County Edition.

Winfield, who is third among active players in hits, had a six-game hitting streak and during that span was 13 for 24 (.542). He raised his batting average to .256, his high as an Angel. During the week, he had one home run--putting him 32nd on the all-time list with 371--scored seven runs and drove in five, including the game-winner against Oakland in Saturday’s 12-inning, 6-5 victory.

A check for $250 in Winfield’s name will be given to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Orange County.
