Software Toolworks Profit Takes Off in 1st Quarter

Software Toolworks Inc., a Chatsworth producer of video games and personal-computer software, said its fiscal first-quarter profit soared to $5.88 million from $984,000 a year earlier.

The earnings in the latest quarter ended June 30 included a $2.25-million tax benefit, and came on a 74% jump in Software Toolworks’ sales to $22.3 million from $12.8 million.

The company attributed the gains in part to its release of new games for the Nintendo home-video system and to continued strong sales of other software programs.
