HUNTINGTON BEACH : Pierside Village Session Wednesday

Share

City officials have scheduled a public study session Wednesday to discuss the Pierside Village project. The session will include a discussion of the initial report on the environmental impact of the project.

Pierside Village, a key part of a proposed multimillion-dollar downtown redevelopment, would include a plaza and promenade area with at least three restaurants. The structures would be built on beach bluff land between First and Main streets on the ocean side of Pacific Coast Highway. The area is currently paved over for parking.

Supporters of the project, including the Huntington Beach-Fountain Valley Board of Realtors, say that Pierside Village would provide an attractive area for people to dine and walk near the pier. Opponents, including Huntington Beach Tomorrow and Save Our Parks, say that the new buildings would be “visual pollution” and would ruin the city’s ocean view.

“People are invited to come and ask questions or make observations about what’s in the report,” said Keith Bohr, a city redevelopment specialist. The study session begins at 6 p.m. in Room B-7 of City Hall.

The draft environmental impact report is scheduled to go before the city’s Planning Commission on Aug. 21.
