Pacific Enterprises: The Los Angeles-based parent company of Thrifty Corp. drug and retail stores, Southern California Gas Co. and Pacific Enterprises Oil Co. reported a second-quarter loss of $229 million, contrasted with a $53-million profit for the same period last year. Revenue, at $1.6 billion, was up 3.8%. The net loss reflected a $175-million writedown taken by Pacific Enterprises Oil Co. and a $100-million charge against earnings of Thrifty.
