Preston Buys Interface Product Line

Preston Scientific said it has acquired a data acquisition product line from a subsidiary of Harmon Industries Inc. of Blue Springs, Mo.

Preston will acquire the interface product line from Phoenix Data Inc. for an undisclosed sum.

The line, which has scientific and military aerospace applications, consists of products that convert analog data into code that computers can understand. It will supplement Preston’s current line of testing products, said Phil Halverson, Preston’s executive vice president.

Harmon Industries said in a statement that it is selling the product line because of reductions in military spending that accompanied the thawing of Cold War tensions. But Halverson said that was not a concern for Preston because its business is only 40% military.
