Long Beach : Condo Tower to Be Built on Pacific Coast Club Site

Two years after a wrecking ball destroyed the old Pacific Coast Club, considered one of the most gracious landmarks in Long Beach, groundbreaking will begin today for its replacement: a luxury condominium tower.

The castle-like building on Ocean Boulevard was demolished in 1988 despite efforts by preservationists to save it. The site has been vacant since.

Developer Rob Bellevue sold the barren site to a group of investors, who plan to build a 16-story luxury residential tower called The Pacific.

San Francisco-based Haas and Haynie Corp., along with two Japanese firms, recently announced construction of the 187 dwelling units that will range in price from $200,000 to $2.5 million.

The condominiums will range from 800 square feet to 4,135 square feet, with 80% of the units facing the ocean, according to Haas and Haynie officials. The tower also will have a spa, a swimming pool, a party room and an exercise room.
