Murder Suspect, 95, Dies After Bus Hits Him
A 95-year-old man awaiting trial for murder was struck by a bus and killed after receiving special permission to leave his apartment for a hospital visit, police said.
Oliver Barre was hit by a city bus as he walked across the street with a companion Tuesday on his way to a Veterans Administration hospital about a block away, police said. He died two hours later at Bellevue Hospital.
Barre had been charged with second-degree murder in the June 16 metal-pipe bludgeoning of an elderly neighbor. He pleaded innocent and was due in court Oct. 4.
