A World War II bomb found near Wetzlar exploded today during attempts to disarm it, killing two explosives experts and injuring three, police said.

The bomb was discovered a day earlier by children playing behind a factory.

The explosion occurred near this town about 30 miles north of Frankfurt.

Police in nearby Giessen said two explosives experts were killed, two were severely injured and one was slightly hurt. The bomb went off as a demolition team prepared to lift it.

A police spokesman said the bomb had been dropped on the area during World War II but had not detonated.
