BIG RIGS

Apparently Harry Shearer has not checked the statistics to find that the majority of the jackknifed trailers and spilled loads are caused by the motorist who cuts in front of or beside a trucker with little or no room to spare (“Big Wheels,” June 24). In order to avoid hitting the little car, the trucker might slam on the brakes and jackknife or spill his load. It might be better to just hit the car and at least protect the people on either side and not hold up the traffic for hours. The normal reaction, however, is to avoid hitting the intruder.

Remember, truckers bring you everything you use, from food to clothing to sports equipment, yet they are cussed at for holding up traffic, and they are given no respect or roadway courtesy.
