SIMI VALLEY : Couple Holds Burglary Suspect

Share

A Simi Valley couple caught a man breaking into their home early Sunday and held him at gunpoint until police arrived, said police spokesman Lt. Neal Rein.

Rein said Robert Whitaker, 24, of Simi Valley stepped through an unlocked sliding-glass door at a house in the 900 block of Planetree Avenue about 1:15 a.m. Whitaker made his way to the bedroom, where Jesse James Eads III, 33, and his wife, Yolanda Eads, 32, were sleeping, Rein said.

As Whitaker took cash and jewelry from the bedroom, Yolanda Eads awoke and alerted her husband, Rein said. Jesse Eads pulled out a handgun and detained Whitaker just as the suspect was trying to leave through the locked front door, Rein said.

Police recovered $2,000 in cash and jewelry from Whitaker and arrested him on charges of burglary, Rein said. Whitaker was ordered held at the Ventura County Jail in lieu of $10,000 pending arraignment, which is scheduled for Tuesday.
