Florence Mandel; Chamber of Commerce Manager

Florence Mandel of Arleta, a former manager with the Panorama City/Sepulveda Chamber of Commerce, has died at Encino Hospital. She was 68.

Born Florence Jaslow in Mt. Clemens, Mich., she died Saturday of cancer, said Max Mandel, her husband of 46 years.

Mrs. Mandel came to the San Fernando Valley in 1955 with her family. She became active in the Girl Scouts and was the coordinator for the Northeast Valley chapter for more than 15 years. She was also an active member of the Beautification Committee for the San Fernando Valley, as well as the Pacoima Women’s Club and the Police Athletic League.

She began working as a manager for the Pacoima Chamber of Commerce in 1974. She continued as manager at the Reseda Chamber of Commerce from 1976 through 1980, and retired from the Panorama City/Sepulveda Chamber of Commerce after working there from 1981 through 1984.

She is survived by her husband, Max Mandel; daughters Charlene Mandel-Chadwick of Pleasant Hill, Barbara Mandel of Palmdale and Sandy Mandel of Pacoima; a brother, Charles Jaslow of Sun City, Ariz.; and sisters Tillie Klein of Sun City, Ariz., Elizabeth Rauch of Boca Raton, Fla., and Sylvia Spitzer of Boca Raton, Fla.

A funeral service was held Monday at Sholom Mortuary in San Fernando, where the arrangements were made. Donations can be made in Mrs. Mandel’s name to the American Cancer Society.
