Gilbert Regalado; Superintendent

Gilbert Regalado of Simi Valley, who was a garage superintendent for the Los Angeles Times, has died at Simi Valley Adventist Hospital. He was 49.

Formerly of Chatsworth, Regalado died Monday of cancer, said Valerie Regalado, his wife of 20 years.

Regalado was born in Tenamaxtlan, Jalisco, Mexico, and came to the United States in 1945 when his family moved to Santa Monica.

Regalado began working as an apprentice mechanic for the Los Angeles Times in 1977 and was promoted to assistant garage supervisor in 1982. He was transferred to the San Fernando Valley plant in Chatsworth in 1983 and became the garage supervisor in 1984. He became the garage superintendent in 1989.

Regalado was an elder at Valley View Church in Canoga Park, serving at various times over the past 15 years.

He is survived by his wife, Valerie of Simi Valley; a son, Robert Regalado of Canoga Park; daughters Suzie Prine of Palmdale, Becky Regalado of Dallas, Lisa Funkhouser of Canoga Park, and Sessie and Sarah Regalado of Simi Valley; brothers Elias Regalado of Mar Vista, Calif., David Regalado of Sylmar, and Fernando Regalado of Santa Monica; sisters Lydia Mojica of Arleta, Martha Williams of Oceano, Calif., and Anna Becera of Monterey Park; his mother, Alejandra Regalado of Santa Monica; and 3 grandchildren.

A Memorial service will be held Thursday at noon at Valley View Church in Canoga Park. Arrangements were made at Bastian & Perrott Mortuary in Northridge. For information regarding donations in Regalado’s name, please call the Valley View Church.
