More Marines are being deployed to the Persian Gulf area from Southern California, Marine Corps officials said Wednesday.

The Marines are from the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force--including units from the 1st Marine Division and the 1st Service Support Group in Camp Pendleton--as well as the 3rd Aircraft Wing based in El Toro and the 7th Marine Expeditionary Brigade from Twentynine Palms.

These Marines will be sent in addition to a brigade from the 4th Marine Expeditionary Brigade, based in Norfolk, Va. That brigade includes Marine units from the 2nd Marine Division, the 2nd Force Service Support Group and the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing in North Carolina.
