NATION : Labor Claims Settled: Nordstrom

SEATTLE — Nordstrom Inc. has settled all its outstanding labor claims with the National Labor Relations Board, the clothing store chain said today.
Joe Demarte, Nordstrom vice president for personnel, said 13 of the 19 charges filed by the United Food and Commercial Workers were dismissed or withdrawn.
“This settlement wipes the slate clean in terms of the unfair labor practice charges that have been filed by the union,” Demarte said. “We felt it was more important to reach a settlement of the issues pending before the NLRB rather than continuing to debate the merits of the union’s allegations.”
Nordstrom said the settlement will require it to post for 60 days a notice explaining the NLRB findings to employees and what the company must do under the settlement.
Nordstrom has been embroiled in labor troubles for the last year. Most recently, the NLRB said earlier this month that Nordstrom had unlawfully helped some employees try to decertify their union.
