High Hopes: A metal box found in the South Pacific may be a clue to the disappearance of pilot Amelia Earhart, who vanished with navigator Fred Noonan in 1937 during an around-the-world flight. The aluminum case was buried on Nikumarora, an atoll north of Western Samoa. Explorer Tom Gannon said Friday in Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., that he believes the bookcase came from Earhart’s plane: “It’s more than a promising lead. It’s a convincer.”

Higher Hopes: Tammy Faye Bakker hopes visitors to Disney World will join her new flock at a nearby industrial complex after going on the rides at the theme park. The wife of fallen evangelist Jim Bakker held her first service at the industrial site in Orlando, Fla., Sunday after winning a county zoning battle to allow a religious congregation there. “I was in shock when we finally won it,” she told about 60 worshipers. “I guess I’ve kind of gotten used to accepting defeat.”

All in the Family: Australian singer Helen Reddy has an ancestor who earned a one-way convict’s ticket Down Under by threatening a man with a hammer. She found a court transcript describing how Britisher Richard Morgan lay in wait under a bed, hoping the man would sign over 500. “He said: ‘I’ll knock your brains out if you don’t sign it,’ ” said Reddy Friday in Salt Lake City. Morgan ended up on a convict ship to Australia in the early 1800s. Reddy is known for singing the feminist anthem “I Am Woman.”

Hit With Suit: Phyllis C. Polaner, a former publicist for boxer Mike Tyson’s ex-wife Robin Givens, is suing the former heavyweight champion for sexually assaulting and threatening to kill her in 1988. The lawsuit, filed Friday in Newark, N.J., seeks unspecified damages. Tyson’s lawyer, Howard Weitzman, said Monday the suit has no validity. “It’s part of the price Mike pays for who he is.”
