Monrovia : Building Ban Is Extended

A moratorium on hillside development was extended for an additional year Tuesday, and the City Council appointed 17 people to a Hillside Advisory Committee to revise development guidelines.

The moratorium was established Feb. 6 in response to residents’ objections to the large size of new homes being built on standard-sized lots in the Gold Hills area. The 700 acres affected by the moratorium is on the western portion of the city’s hillsides, about half of which could potentially be developed, said Donald R. Hopper, director of community development.

While the moratorium is in effect, the only development that can take place in the area is single-family homes on existing lots and subdivisions with a minimum of 10 acres per lot.
