Oklahoma Athletic Director Donnie Duncan has been talking with his counterpart at Miami about a scheduling alliance that could include the Big Eight and Southwest conferences and some Eastern Seaboard independents.

Duncan said his idea is to schedule football games between the top Big Eight and SWC teams with such Eastern teams as Miami, Syracuse, Boston College, Rutgers, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, Army and Navy.

He told the Daily Oklahoman in a story for today’s editions that he has talked with Miami Athletic Director Sam Jankovich about the possibility of cross-scheduling.

“I asked Sam if he thought the Eastern independents would prefer to remain independent if they had the chance, and he said he thought most of them would,” Duncan said. “This could create some stability for them.”

Duncan told the Daily Oklahoman in today’s editions that a scheduling alliance would allow the groups to schedule games that television networks would find attractive.
