P.M. BRIEFING : Toyota, Nissan Production Rises

TOKYO — Japan’s two largest auto makers, Toyota and Nissan, today reported their vehicle production increased in July, fueled by steady demand on the home market.
However, Toyota said its exports soared while Nissan reported a decline in overseas sales.
Toyota indicated its vehicle production in July increased 19.4% over a year ago to 382,055 units, a new July record. Its domestic sales gained 6.7%, while exports surged 10.2%.
Nissan said its production grew 4.7% to 218,061 units. The company said its domestic sales were up 2.2%, while exports fell 11%. Passenger cars exports were down 14.7%, the company said, but overseas sales of commercial vehicles were up 9.2%.
