Pilot Error Blamed in Fatal Ethiopian Crash

HOUSTON —
An Ethiopian government investigation into the airplane crash that killed Rep. Mickey Leland and 15 others a year ago concluded the accident most likely was caused by pilot error.
“By pushing too far and flying into an area of bad weather at a very low altitude, the flight crew may have failed to maintain visual ground contact and unknowingly collided with a mountain,” the report by the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority declared.
