General Cinema Corp.: The Chestnut Hill, Mass.-based theater chain and retailer said third-quarter net income fell 78% to $5.7 million, while revenue rose 2% to $506 million. The report includes the operating results of Neiman Marcus Group, its 60%-owned retailing subsidiary, with a lag of one quarter. Income from interest and dividends declined to $22.3 million from $41.4 million a year ago. That reflects the payment of nearly $600 million of capital gains taxes related to the company’s sale of its soft-drink bottling business. The firm noted a sharp decline in income from its theaters as well as a disappointing performance by the Horchow Mail Order business, which had a substantial loss in the quarter, and by lower operating earnings from Bergdorf Goodman.
