From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The Canadian army said it will use unarmed tanks to dismantle Mohawk barricades at Oka and Kahnawake. As the announcement was made, violence broke out between white residents and Indians at one barrier, and injuries were reported. Lt. Gen. Kent Foster said plans are ready to evacuate people from the military zones if necessary. The Indians put up the barricades nine weeks ago to protest a golf course extension.
