From Times Staff and Wire Service Reports

Vandals spray-painted swastikas on the inside of a black couple’s home and did an estimated $30,000 damage, virtually wrecking the interior of the Agoura area house, authorities said today.

Szebelski L. Freeman, 68, and his wife Matilda, 69, returned to their house about 9 p.m. Wednesday and found red paint on the walls and carpets and much of the interior damaged, Sheriff’s Deputy Roger Hom said.

Furniture was slashed and broken, holes were kicked in the walls, paintings were torn from their frames and thrown about, lamps and a fish tank were broken and food was taken from the freezer and left out to spoil, Hom said.

The house is located in an expensive neighborhood of the unincorporated Agoura area.

Detectives from the Malibu sheriff’s station were investigating the vandalism as a hate crime, Hom said.
